Serious Questions About SB20-163

SB20-163 is the WRONG choice for Colorado because…

  • Removes liberty of conscience and religious freedom for Colorado families
    • By removing the distinctions of “Religious” and “Philosophical” and placing both into one category of “non-medical exemption,” this bill effectively removes one of our three current exemptions. It also removes all stated reasons for non-medical exemptions stripping Coloradans of both religious freedom and liberty of conscience. Is Colorado prepared to violate religious freedoms and liberty of conscience?

  • Places burden on doctors to determine sincerity
    • What training will doctors receive to determine “sincerely held personal or religious belief?”

  • Utilizes “re-education.” Forced “education” is never effective.
    • Why are some Coloradans in need of education on vaccines while others are not?
    • How is forcing Coloradans to participate an educational module prior to obtaining an exemption different than forcing women to participate in an educational module prior to obtaining reproductive health care?

  • No safeguards against compelled speech on forms, increasing the threat to families for signing incriminating documents against themselves
    • CDPHE already has a history of morphing form language into incriminating and compelled speech. Are we prepared for Colorado parents to be coerced into compelled speech on a form?

  • It strips future Colorado lawmakers of the right to legislative process, and to represent the people of Colorado, for future changes to the practices, goals, and rules for Colorado’s immunization program
    • Why should a department meant to execute the law be allowed to set it?

SB20-163 is simply not right for Colorado. I urge you to vote no on SB20-163
